Acne Home Care Remedies

If you're interested in creating acne home care remedies and lotions from regular household goods, you're not alone.  Many household recipes have been in circulation for years.  Again, everyone reacts differently to the same treatment, but the ease and overall safety of household recipes make it a good, economical choice for those suffering from mild to moderate acne.  Here are a few homemade acne treatment recipes that you can create at home using everyday household items to clear up your skin.

Baking Soda Scrub

Making a baking soda scrub is easy to use, and many have reported successful results from its use.  This scrub is designed to exfoliate your skin.  Exfoliation is key in treating acne; since it focuses on removing dead skin cells that can get trapped in your pores and then manifest themselves as acne.  First, mix a small amount of baking soda (a teaspoon will probably be enough) with water to create a consistent paste.  Very gently, massage the baking soda scrub onto your skin.  Leave it on for approximately one minute, then rinse clean with lukewarm review.  Use a clean towel to pat your face dry.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Another popular home treatment for acne uses apple cider vinegar.  Apple cider vinegar has long been lauded for its health benefits, including acne.  Some claim that apple cider vinegar has the ability to rid your skin of bacteria, balance your skin's pH level, and keep your face fresh and free of excessive oil.  Apple cider vinegar is also high in citric acid, which is a strong exfoliating ingredient that can help remove excess dead skin cells and improve your skin's overall texture and tone.

To use, simply dilute the apple cider vinegar, one part vinegar to eight parts water.  If possible, use high quality apple cider vinegar and purified water.  To use, wet a cotton ball with your apple cider vinegar mix and gently moisten your skin.  Don't overdo it.  Apple cider vinegar is strong stuff that can dry out your skin, resulting in even more breakouts.

Egg Whites

Egg whites, rich in protein and vitamins, have also been a favorite healing ingredient and have long been used to help tone and tighten skin.  Simply beat two egg whites together to a consistent froth.  Apply the mixture to your face and let sit for about fifteen minutes.  Rinse the egg off with lukewarm water.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of my personal favourites.  I always have a bottle of tea tree in the medicine cupboard.  At the first sign of an acne breakout put some oil onto a cotton bud and dab the offending area.  Be careful not to let it get into your eyes.  If this should happen, just rinse with cold water.

Toothpaste

Toothpaste?? Yes, toothpaste.  Once again, just dab a small amount of toothpaste onto the spot and leave overnight, the toothpaste dries out and the menthol within the toothpaste helps to clear up the spot.  - Don't forget to rinse it off in the morning or you'll get some very funny looks.

Honey

Apply a honey mask once or twice a week.  Honey is great for disinfecting and healing minor blemishes and takes it easy on sensitive skin.

A facial mask to use after your acne cleanser is a combination of apples and honey. Grate one medium-size apple and mix it with about five tablespoons of honey. Apply it to your face (avoiding the eyes) and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Then splash it off with cool water. This is a great treatment for oily skin, and certainly costs less than a mask on sale at the drug store.

Gentle Exfoliating Mask

For this gentle acne cleanser, use 1/2 cup of either oatmeal or cornmeal and mix it with enough plain yogurt to turn it into a paste. Then apply to the face (avoiding the eye area) and wash off with water. Oatmeal tends to absorb things (such as oil and dirt) and it also helps soften the skin.

Major Breakout Mask!

If you want to help control your acne, a simple mask made from what you keep in your kitchen can assist you in your fight against acne. For a major breakout, form a paste using one half cup strained tomato pulp and powdered milk. When there is enough to make a paste, blend until the mixture is no longer pasty, but is smooth. Then apply and leave for 20 minutes. You should wash this off with warm water. Because Vitamin C and Potassium are found in tomatoes, this will also help your skin heal from the acne.
